DS and Mez - discussion started by Community Member Purpose.
I was recently involved in a heated argument with someone about damage shields and the possibility of a DS breaking a mez. To me, the fact that a damage shield can not and will not break a mez is common sense, but as many of you know common sense is far from common. While I am not an enchanter, it has come to my attention that there is one particular type of mez that can be broken by a DS, and that is a proc from the "ward of bewilderment" buff. This happens because the mez procs when an enchanter is hit by a mob and if the enchanter also has a DS on it will instantly break the proc'ed mez. I do not refer to this spell or any of it effects for the purpose of this discussion.

The person I was arguing with claims that a DS can break a mez if the mob is in "mid-swing" because as the mob is mezzed it will finish the swing and be damaged by the DS. I find this statement absurd. In 5 years of CCing mobs, 99% of the time with a damage shield on, this has never happened to me, and in fact I am 99.9% sure that it is impossible under normal circumstances. There is no such thing as "mid-swing," swinging is only a graphic, and once a mob is mezzed it is mezzed, not mezzed until it "finishes its swing." It is hard for me to understand how a high end gamer could even make these ludicrous claims let alone actually believe them. If anyone can shed some light on this discussion please help me explain to this ignorant person why they are wrong, and by all means, if I am wrong, put me in my place.

Best Class/Race overall for noobs - discussion started by Community Member cingkold.
I play some online rpg's and I was wondering which is the best class overall for noobs. By overall i mean soloing, groups, and cheapness of items. And which would last the longest in battle. Also whichever class is best overall which race would be best for that class. I'm open to all opinions.

Best Two-box to start (been away for 4 years) - discussion started by Community Member Schwankdaddy.
Thinking of getting back into EQ - been away for almost 4 years. Was going to two-box and was wondering what would be a nice duo. I used to play a Pally long time ago but wanted to start over with a duo. I two boxed a Monk/Warden to 70 in EQ2. I do have some coin on my old EQ character that I could use for gear, and do have some real nice Pally gear on toon. (Has it changed in EQ where you can take gear off and sell it or trade - or has it become like EQ2 where you can't?) Anyway - I would definitely like to have one as a melee (either tank or dps type)

Didi's Diary – diary written by Community Member Dread_Gnome_Pirate.
((OOC preface: when I started to play EverQuest in 2001 I initially played very irregularly on Drinal server, picked only because all the server names looked strange and at least Drinal was short enough to remember. However, when Firiona Vie the roleplay server opened up, a work acquaintance convinced me to start a character there. He was playing an ogre; in order to group with him under the old alignment restrictions, I would have to be evil (or neutral) also. I decided that a shadow knight sounded like a relatively simple class for a complete newbie to try, and of the evil races, I decided that dark elf had pretty good stats for it. I picked the name Didi because in Neil Gaiman's "High Cost of Living", that is the name that Death used when she became a mortal for a day. And so Didi was born. I soon realized that Firiona Vie was a very different type of server from Drinal, and that the community was very small and close-knit, and very interested in roleplay. I started to experiment with roleplaying and trying to think as if I really were the character, and to help that, I started keeping a brief "diary" written in the voice of my character. At first it was just for my own amusement and then that of my guild, after a while I put it up on a web site, and by 2004 people all over the server seemed to be reading it and complete strangers would recognize me when I entered the zone. Unintentionally, the diary became a chronicle containing many of the most memorable and important roleplay events in the life of Firiona Vie server. It also became a remarkable long epic story of the character of Didi, and the people whose lives she shared. I eventually gave up the diary as life became too busy, and when EQ2 opened I arranged the retirement of Didi moved over to play EQ2 instead as all new characters. The web site has now been taken down, but here for posterity I am going to repost the diary, along with some OOC annotations that weren't in the original, to explain the background story for those who weren't there at the time. Feel free to ignore all OOC notes if you just want the story; or read the whole thing as a fantastic, long-lasting adventure and growing experience both in and out of game.))
