Quest Background:

Bristlebane appears to Niami in a dream and hints at a new recipe.  Over the course of the day, he pays her random visits with inspirations about what the recipe might involve.  Niami thinks it's all a trick by the big prankster, but her love for new recipes is so great that she's willing to take a chance.  She asks the adventurers and wanderers of the land for help in deciphering the clues and collecting the items that Bristlebane has mentioned.

(Side note: This is loosely inspired by Niami's appearance in W T F Comics.)

Note to players: THERE IS NO NEW RECIPE!  This is just background for the quest.

Quest Mechanics:

Players will be provided with a whimsical list of clues pointing to each item that should be collected.  (This is similar in concept to the EQ Anniversary quests, where players are provided with a Cheat Sheet.)  In practice, the "cheat sheet" for this quest will be posted on a Web site.  A few additional clues will be revealed over the course of the quest; these will NOT be posted to the Web site.  Participants must be in channel to receive these clues.  Finally, seven clues will lead to volunteer players acting as NPC's.  Those NPC's will demand an item before revealing the next clue, which leads to another item for the quest.

Players will have approximately three to four hours (to be determined) to collect as many as possible of the items on the award list.  Each item is worth a set number of points, marked on the cheat sheet.  The player with the highest point total places first, etc.  In the case of a tie, the person who handed in their final item first wins.  There is no time bonus for finishing early.  The majority of the items are tradeskill-made or tradeskill-related.

Prizes will be awarded to the top finishers.  In addition, prizes will be awarded at random among players who meet a minimum threshold for participation (about 10% of the possible points).

How you can help:

1) Spread the word!  Come take part, and bring your friends!

Post a link to this announcement on your guild or server boards, and let folks know they can take part.  You don't have to be a long-time resident of Luclin to take part, although you will likely need a character of about level 60-ish if you wish to really have a chance of succeeding.

2) Donate to the prize pool!

I hope to make this the biggest cash (plat) prize in the history of EQ.  I don't know what the past record is, but from the reactions I get when I talk to people, I'm pretty sure this event will smash that record.

Donations to the prize pool are welcome, but for logistical simplicity, I can only accept donations of at least 100Kpp.  Donors may choose to be anonymous, or to have their name added to the donor registry.  Obviously, I can only accept donations from people on the Luclin server.  Contact me in-game if you wish to donate.

3) Volunteer to help as a marshal or an NPC!

I need approximately 10-12 volunteers to act as marshals or to role-play "NPC's" for this event.  If you're good at role playing or would like to assist in organizing and running the quest, post here or send me an email in-game.  Volunteers will receive a small stipend for their time.

To volunteer, you MUST have a main of at least level 60 on the Luclin server, and you must be a member of a guild whose name I recognize.  Basically, I want people who have made Luclin their home.  You must also be available both Saturdays for the full duration.  Contact me in-game if you would like to help.

BONUS QUEST!

To help test the organizational parts of the quest, I will be holding a "dry run" quest on Saturday, September 22.  The objective is to test out staff interaction and how the quest will be managed.  The prizes for this quest will be much smaller, around 100K.  Same rules will apply, but obviously, the item list for the bonus quest will be different from the real quest.  Expected run time for this dry run will be about one hour, starting around 1:00pm to 2:00pm.
