Slashtail Deathdealer

Server: Xegony
Guild: Crimson Steel

Where in the real life world do you live?
My home is San Francisco, CA. I go to school in Portland, OR

How long have you played EQ?
Since 1 week after retail release in 1999

What other MMOs have you played?
WoW a little, Star Wars Galaxies, PlanetSide

What type of work do you do?
I am a student in college

How long is your typical gaming session when playing EQ?
2-8 hours

What does a typical EQ day consist of for you?
I will first log in and ask my guild if anyone needs me for a group. If not, I will ask general chat. If I get a "yes" from one of those, I'll end up grinding in whatever new expansion is out or helping a low-level group camping an item for a 1.0 or trying to get exp in an MM, LDoN, or normal group in which I will shroud down. If nothing presents itself in general chat or in the guild, I will ask friends to come help me on finishing every endgame from original EQ to present or by taking out random raid bosses. So far, I have done Veeshan's Peak, Plane of Growth, Akheva Ruins, Dreadspire, Arcstone, Anguish, and am working on several others. Once in a while, I'll get a tell from a member of one of the "leet" guilds on the server asking for a puller in a particularly difficult new zone. Those groups are a lot of fun, and I learn a lot.

What was the race and class of your very first character?
Very first? Erudite Magician back in Beta using my brother's beta access to the game.

What got you into gaming and what sort of games do you like the most?
I started playing Doom on sitting on my father's knee when I was about 4 years old. By the time I was 6 I had beaten Doom 1 and 2 all on my own. The rest is history. I still enjoy FPSs but my love for EverQuest is not going anywhere. I also appreciate fighting consol games, racing games, and pretty much anything else. I also spent a large amount of my time playing Diablo 2, Starcraft, and Warcraft 2. My favorite type of game is MMO, then comes FPS, then comes RTS.

What other hobbies or activities do you take part in, other then playing EverQuest?
My father and I race a 1965 Porsche 911 with the Porsche Club of America. We aspire to go to Mexico in a few years to race La Carrera Panamericana.

I am also a drummer and play with a number of different local bands in Portland.

I am also a student of philosophy and enjoy spending time not on the computer, behind the wheel, or on the drummer's throne arguing and debating my friends, family, and classmates on a variety of ethical, philosophical, and all around interesting issues.

What is your highest level in EQ?
76 at the moment

What race and class is your main character?
Iksar Monk

What do you like the most about the class you have chosen for your main character?
Feign Death, without competition. There is nothing like running through a Siren's Grotto (or a similar dungeon) without invis, training everything in sight, just to hit FD at the last minute upon losing my direction, or running into the zoneline on the other side of the zone without any hesitation or fear of death.

Does your main character worship a deity?
Yes, Cazic Thule

How did you choose your main character's name?
I thought the coolest animation of the iksar was the tail rake ability on the old character models. I named him after that.

Which classes in EQ have you NOT played?
Bezerker. I've done everything else at least to level 20

What is your favorite expansion?
That's a tough one...I really like EQ classic because it had a feeling of adventure that has not been matched by any other expansion to date. Kunark was probably my favorite, however, because I was in the Greater Faydark when King Tearis Thex and FV came out and put on a nice GM event. I wish Sony did things like that today.

What is your favorite zone?
My favorite zone would have to be Anguish to date. I think the level building team did a phenomenal job on the architecture.

What is your favorite NPC?
Cazic Thule by far....the first time i ever died in EQ was to Cazic Thule as a level 1 ogre warrior back when Plane of Fear didn't have an entry level requirement

Which expansion do you like the least?
Gates of Discord.

Which zone do you like the least?
Plane of Knowledge

Which NPC do you like the least?
All the ones that stand around and say they are waiting for someone very important to arrive... as if I'm not very important!

What is the most platinum you have ever spent on purchasing a single item for one of your characters?
Maybe my Drogmor? I tend to be stingy, but I'll estimate 200,000pp for SOMEthing for Slashtail... not sure what

Do you have an item you no longer use but keep around for nostalgic reasons? If so what is it and why do you keep it?
Of course! I have the only item I ever stole in EQ on my rogue, a Coral Trident. I also have my Brass Brazen Kilij that I spent months saving up for. And finally, the most coveted item I ever wanted in the game: a worn great staff on my 2nd character ever. It took me 2 weeks to save up enough gold to buy one from an NPC merchant in Qeynos.

What do you like best about EverQuest?
My friends, by far... my guild mates and friends that I've made are wonderful people and they are what makes the game worth playing.

What do you get out of playing EverQuest?
Fun, escape, adventure, education, etc.

Describe your best experience from playing EverQuest?
That's a tough one...probably my first Naggie raid ever. I was so exited that I could go as a level 48 bard. It was my first raid ever and I was so surprised by the amount of time, effort, and energy that was required to master such an event. Now I wish I could just go back to that room to remember the good times.

Do you run or work for an EverQuest Fan Site?
Nope
