Where am I? - Discussion started by Community Member Zanderon
This game is to find out how familiar people are with Norrath and its neighboring planes and planets!

The original post contains a screenshot taken somewhere in EQ. Following posters will try and guess where it is. The person who guesses correctly will then post a screenshot of their own, and the game continues!

When can I raid? How many people are needed? - Discussion started by Community Member Critter667
Just curious as to what the general lowest level is to be able to raid? What's the minimum people needed for a raid, or is that raid specific? What is raiding even like?

I saw an open raid on Drinal last night, but being 7 levels too low, wasn't able to join in. Still, what's it like? A friend said that with 2 people and 2 mercs, you could do a small raid. Was he over-exaggerating or is it possible? Thanks all.

The Community = EQ's HPs - Discussion started by Community Member cmurphy
EQ is a social game. Even with mercs, the game cannot survive without friends, guilds, and strong social networks. In a word, 'community'. The strength of EQ's communities is CRITICAL to the health of the game. Instead of hoping' for the best, what can we do to help strengthen it?

The best way to build community is to encourage grouping. Make grouping something you ALWAYS want to do. Encourage play that fosters new friendships and stronger ties between players. Give players strong incentives to work together, at all times (not just for XYZ quest), even for short periods. There are lots of ways to do this...

Here's my suggestion: add 20% XP per non-merc group member (past the first). Reasoning: A very simple code change to make it so that you ALWAYS get better XP by adding folks to your group. Players should WANT to invite joe-shmoe, even if only for 15 mins, because it means more XP. The more players group together, the more friends they make; the more they feel a sense of belonging; the more they learn about the game; the more places they discover in the world; the more they are likely to invite their friends; and the more players are likely to stick with the game. So, that's my suggestion. What's yours?

Things Long Overdue - Discussion started by Community Member ratblaster1
There are a bunch of things that I would have loved to see be fixed or added years ago. I'm sure to think of some more after I hit submit but other ideas and comments are welcome.

And lest I be considering as just complaining...I think *most* of the recent changes to the game have been great and am having (almost) too much fun in SoD so far, more so than the previous several expansions.

Targeting: One of those things which started off below average anyways and just slowly got worse over the years. Its frustrating when you have to play mouse or keyboard gymnastics just to target a mob standing in front of you, especially considering I have not played any other game that has any sort of the same issue (it just seems to work). That combined with the "you cannot see your target" and the often illogical hit boxes of mobs make this one of my hated pet peeves.

Worn Stat Summary: With all the mods, mod2s, ... mod17s added over the years it has been increasingly harder to tally up exactly what value a particular stat has let alone your actual cap for that stat (how often has someone asked what the HP regen cap is?). One should not have to resort to an external website (Magelo) to learn that you have 19 of 35% shielding or 99 of 25 mana regen.

Faction Display: Another one of those mystery numbers in the game that is arbitrarily hidden from view despite most of the recent expansions relying on it. A simple option to view the actual faction number when a faction is modified would be sufficient (Your faction with Fangbreakers has increased (1020/2500)).

Group/Raid Leadership: These were a great feature when first added but some of their usefulness has faded over the years (gee, a whole 3 HP regen). Some of the GLAA/RLAA lines could be trivially extended and lots of suggestions have been made for new ones. I do not really agree with the dev sentiment that GLAA/RLAA could be better offered as regular AA (not sure if Rytan or Rashere mentioned this a while ago).

Shrouds: Put this in the "could've been a great feature but nothing was done about it" box. Currently there is only a few possible uses for shrouds, most of which bordering on the exploitive side (not that I haven't used them myself of course). What really is (was) needed was a mentoring type system like found in other MMOs to help connect players of varying levels play together. This could have been a great help to the "empty zone, no groups" syndrome commonly expressed. Unfortunately, this also could be put in the "would've been good years ago but probably too late now" box.

Player Models: I'm not entirely sure exactly what happened here. Years ago we were shown various new models which didn't exactly go over well and then they disappeared. I have not seen any mention or hint that they are still even being worked on a little bit. What I would do is open the modeling up to any player skilled or motivated enough to do a race or two themselves. While I realize this isn't exactly a "free lunch" from the dev side I've found in other games (Morrowind/Oblivion for example) the player created models can often exceed the quality from those of the game.

Lack of Inventory Space: This has always been an issue, at least for pack rats like myself, which has been temporarily satisfied at times by a larger bank, guild bank, and shared bank. I'm happy to see that *most* of the quests in SoD let you pre-loot quest items but there are still, annoyingly, a good number of quests that don't so you are still left playing the "should I loot this quest drop now or later" game (as fun as that is...). The addition of the quest piece guy in the guild lobby is also a great addition but quest pieces from the last several expansions need to be added as well (unsure if that is planned or not). Lately I've been wishing more and more for a couple of clicky item slots or being able to click items from within bags or via the potion belt. It seems that on some characters half of my inventory is full of clickies, potions, keys, or other items of various sorts that I just *need* to have (or perhaps I should seek professional help).

User Interface: The default interface could use a little...ok a lot of love. I haven't started a new character in a while but last time I did the UI was simply awful with dozens of windows all over the place. I would hate to be a new player trying to figure it out. Doing the "this is what I would do" game: I would make a contest for someone to make the best default UI with prizes of some sort (clickies, illusions, free account for life, etc...). EQPlayers: This could have been (or could be still) a great and useful site that puts Allakhazam/Magelo and similar sites to shame. It has all the 'inside' information on items, spells, AAs, players, guilds, etc... so I've always wondered where exactly the problems with the site have been (does it work lately?).

Game Direction: Perhaps more of a wish than anything, but I have always wanted to know the longer term direction and planning of the game. I don't necessarily need to see the verbatim developer or producer notes but even now I don't have any idea what the plans are for the game in the upcoming months (any special for the 10th anniversary, will there be another expansion, can the level cap keep increasing, is relative class balance being considered, what about the raid/group relative power in the future, can mob HPs/DPS simply keep increasing linearly, are you trying to get new players into the game or simply keep old players, what about more ways of getting new characters up to a reasonable level/AA count, etc...). Think of it this way: I'm 'investing' 1000$ each year and great deal of time into the game...I'd like to know that this investment is worthwhile and for that I need to know a *rough* idea of where the game is heading. Not being told anything makes me think you don't want me to know (bad) or that you don't know yourselves (even worse).
