Meet Rasper Helpdesk

Server: Prexus

Guild: Loyal Rebellion

Where in the real life world do you live?
Richmond, VA

How long have you played EQ?
I picked it up the first weekend it was out, and spent that first week dealing with all the hiccups of getting the servers going.

What other MMOs have you played?
Asheron's Call, EQII, WoW, Horizons, DAoC. Generally for only a short stint though, always came "home" to EQ.

What type of work do you do?
I was a computer programmer dabling in things from website design to Neurofeedback devices. I'm now medically retired (hence plenty of time).

How long is your typical gaming session when playing EQ?
4-5 hours raiding or 1-2 hours if not raiding.

What does a typical EQ day consist of for you?
Check my stock of heal potions, summon some snowballs, and join the raid.

What was the race and class of your very first character?
Oh boy, I *think* it was human monk. It was a Long time ago and I played quite a few back then.

What got you into gaming and what sort of games do you like the most?
I've always been a gamer since computers and I get along very well, as far back as the IBM PC Jr playing King's Quest (came on a single 5.25" floppy). I prefer thinking games to "twitch" games.

What other hobbies or activities do you take part in, other than playing EverQuest?
Chess, used to play Magic but most of the people I played with stopped, and I love to read.

What is your highest level in EQ?
Level 85 in a multitude of classes.

What race and class is your main character?
85 Gnome Rogue (masquerading as Centaur, Orc, Goblin, or Cat depending on mood and location)

What do you like the most about the class you have chosen for your main character?
I feel like I contribute significantly to my raid but without the stress of being a healer or tank.

Does your main character worship a deity?
Bristlebane (sadly it has no bearing on the game these days)

How did you choose your main character's name?
It just felt "rogue-like"

Which classes in EQ have you NOT played?
I have never been a bard, druid, shaman, sk, or ranger.

What is your favorite expansion?
I'll catch a lot of flak for it, but Gates of Discord. It was HARD and very unforgiving, which made each step along the way feel important. Stuff now is just too easy. Getting the boss mob of an entire expansion to 4% on your first attempt just seems wrong.

What is your favorite zone?
Dreadspire / Demiplane because it was truly imersive. It had the old Castlevania feel.

What is your favorite NPC?
Mistmoore, the ultimate bad guy that you "love to hate"

Which expansion do you like the least?
PoR, it was just so underwhelming. The lore wasn't cohesive at all.

Which zone do you like the least?
Plane of Sky. Ever since the begining I simply refuse to go to that zone (the only exception being to recharge Atlane's DA ring)

Which NPC do you like the least?
Hard to pick a specific one. Balreth in Solteris for the inanity of its raid design or Breackneck for its spawn mechanism.

What is the most platinum you have ever spent on purchasing a single item for one of your characters?
Around 500,000

Do you have an item you no longer use but keep around for nostalgic reasons? If so what is it and why do you keep it?
I have a Rose of Firiona. Many many years ago a dear friend made a druid and foraged a dozen of them to gave me for helping her out. She no longer plays EQ, but I have kept one rose as a reminder of her (/hug Roma, wherever you are these days!)

What do you like best about EverQuest?
The people, pure and simple.

What do you get out of playing EverQuest?
I get great personal satisfaction from helping people (hence the last name, Helpdesk), EQ lets me do that for thousands of people.

Describe your best experience from playing EverQuest?
Getting my cleric (Eleena) her epic. I'd been around for a while but just hadn't gotten around to finishing it. When I decided it was time to do so I made a post that I was going to try. In a very casual guild where we normally only had 20ish people show up for events I had over 40 people log on to get it done. The dragon died before I could blink, but what got me was how many people went out of there way to be there for me.

Do you run or work for an EverQuest Fan Site?
I created and maintain Rasper's Repository, half a million hits in the last month. I'm pretty stunned at how wide spread it has become from such a simple site when I started.
