Get to Know a Dev

This month's Get to Know a Dev is all about Assistant Lead Programmer Jennifer "JChan" Chan!

A Casual Snapshot of JChan

Jenn hails from the frozen tundra of Colorado where she learned to program with blue fingers and one eye open to prevent frostbite from setting in. A graduate of Colorado State University with degrees in both Computer Science and Performing Arts, she is pleased to add that she never broke a leg (or any other appendage). Jenn joined SOE in May of 2008 and has been working on EQ ever since. Before that she used to work for a big telecommunications company making glorious charts for the bigwigs.

"It actually was interesting, really," she says. "Truly! Well, at least for a little while. Strike that: let's go with a very little bit."

Her duties include overseeing any major UI development and working with the rest of the team to define and develop new features of the game. Recent projects that she has been working on are Player Housing, the new Polling System, and a number of minor fixes and improvements in the UI and other game systems (e.g. combat, skills, spells). In essence she makes new and shiny things work and she makes old and less shiny things work better.

She likes shiny things (especially if they're blue) and soft fuzzy things that don't move around too much or which can be easily subdued. Her dislikes include but are not limited to anything with more than 4 legs. Words containing the letters "S" or "L" have a nasty way of causing twitching and, on occasion, coughing fits for Jenn. Past expansions she has worked on include Seeds of Destruction, Underfoot, and House of Thule. She also brought you Group Mana and Endurance Visibility, Spam Filtering, Achievements, and /testcopy. There's more stuff about her, but alas we're starting to run low on the precious commodity of pixels.

So now that you know a bit more about her, let's get started with the questions! Please post your questions for Assistant Lead Programmer Jenn "JChan" Chan to the appropriate thread on the forums.
